Daisy Hill: Police shoot man dead after seven-hour siege

Police have fatally shot a man during a late night siege in Daisy Hill.

A seven-hour siege has come to a violent end after police exchanged gunfire with a man in Victoria, killing him.

Police were called to Daisy Hill in the Central Goldfields about 3pm on Thursday, after reports of a gun being fired.

No-one was injured in the initial incident, with police attempting to negotiate with the armed man.

The man refused to engage with the police and a siege lasting several hours began.

Specialist units including Critical Incident Response Team, Special Operations Group, and Doq Squad attended to assist.

After the man shot at police, officers returned fire just before 10pm, shooting the man dead.

He has not yet been formally identified. No-one else was injured.

“Homicide Squad detectives will now investigate the matter with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as is standard procedure for a fatal police shooting,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
