A driver is fighting for life and a toddler has been taken to hospital following a single-vehicle crash near the NSW-Victoria border.

Police say it is believed the car was driving on Wigg St in Wodonga when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree just after 10.30am on Monday.

The driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a toddler was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The exact cause is yet to be determined at this stage,” Victoria Police said.
