A driver was killed when a flying piece of metal hit their car, causing it to crash, on a Victorian road.

The car driver died at the scene.

It is unclear at this stage if anyone else was in the vehicle.

“The truck failed to stop at the scene and was last seen travelling (towards) Altona,” police said.

“Investigators would like to speak to the driver of the truck and are appealing for anyone with dash cam vision to contact police.”

The right turn lane is currently closed westbound at the M80 Ring Rd entrance, according to VicTraffic.

“It is expected there will be major traffic disruptions in the area for several hours,” police said.
