A man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found at a beach in Melbourne’s south-west.

The 49-year-old Springvale woman was found on the sand, near the children’s pool at Eastern Beach Pavilion in Geelong around 11.25am on Wednesday.

It was a member of the public who made the tragic discovery and alerted lifeguards, who then attempted CPR on the woman but were unable to revive her.

A 53-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Geelong’s CBD and has since been charged with one count of murder.

“Detectives believe the people involved are known to one another,” a Victoria Police statement read.

He will appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday, January 30.
