Jam Factory Melbourne: Blaze breaks out at iconic Chapel Street factory, sparking arson manhunt

Police are investigating after a blaze tore through the old Jam Factory site on Chapel Street in South Yarra in the early hours of Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the landmark site, which is currently under demolition and renovation, just after 1.30am to find flames in the building’s first-floor subfloor and an old stairwell, 7News reported.

Fire Rescue Victoria crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control, declaring it contained by 2.40am.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters remain at the scene to extinguish hot spots.

Police have launched an arson investigation into the incident and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
