A man has been killed in a shocking crash on a busy street in Melbourne’s CBD.

The man’s motorcycle collided with a car near the intersection of Flinders St and Exhibition St just before 11am on Friday.

Members of the public rushed to help and performed CPR on the male rider until emergency services arrived.

He could not be revived and died at the scene.

The driver of the car stopped after the crash and police are yet to determine exactly how the crash occurred.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

The intersection of Flinders St, Batman Ave and Olympic Blvd was closed to traffic and trams in all directions and trams on routes 70 and 75 were diverting via La Trobe St.

Flinders St was also closed in both directions between Russell and Spring streets, Batman Ave closed between Olympic Blvd and Flinders St and Exhibition St closed between Collins and Flinders streets.

Commuters were asked to consider using City Loop trains for travel around the CBD.
