Homicide detectives are investigating after a young man died in hospital following a shooting in Melbourne’s CBD in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Franklin and Elizabeth streets just before 4am (7 September) after reports of gunfire.

A short time later, a 26-year-old man from Seabrook presented at a Parkville hospital suffering a gunshot wound.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died shortly after arrival.

Police believe the incident was targeted but say the exact circumstances remain under investigation. Detectives from the Homicide Squad have taken charge of the case.

At this stage, no arrests have been made.
