They allegedly stole the keys to two family cars before ramming a vehicle through the garage door to get away.

The 14 and 15-year-old then allegedly returned to the home late on Sunday for the family’s Nissan.

The fed-up father, who was home at the time, decided to take matters into his own hands, running after the pair as they tried to flee.

He managed to catch up with one of the teens and performed a citizen’s arrest before police arrived.

“I caught up to him about 50m from our house and that’s where I got these bruises,” he said.

“I managed to get him, get hold of him, grab him down.

“(When) I took off his mask, I realised that he (was) so young.”

The man alleged he searched the teen and found he was carrying a knife.

“I grabbed his neck and ... turned him upside down until the police came,” he said.

The father suffered minor injuries during the incident.

He told 7NEWS he would do anything to protect his family.

“As a father you need to make sure your family’s safe, everyone’s safe,” he said.
