Christian College Geelong executive principal Mathilda Joubert has remembered Milla as a beautiful girl with a vibrant and infectious personality.

“Her kindness, warmth and joy impacted all who shared her company,” Joubert said.

“Milla was a keen and talented basketballer, and an integral part of the Christian College representative team at the recent state championships.

“She was a treasured member of our college community and her loss is deeply felt by all staff, students and our Christian College families.”

Joubert shared her sympathies with Milla’s family and said the school would continue to provide ongoing support.

“This is a time of unimaginable loss,” she said.

“In our deep grief, we are also coming together as a community to support one another, drawing strength from God, and the care and compassion that Milla herself demonstrated to others.

“We ask that the family’s privacy, and that of our college community, be respected as we mourn this tragedy together.”

It is believed the bus, carrying students from years 7 to 12, was turning left onto the highway from Friend in Hand Rd when it rolled.

A total of 28 school students were on board the bus at the time, with a 16-year-old boy airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the bus, a 76-year-old man, along with nine students suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to hospital to be treated.

A further 14 students were taken to hospital for observation.

The bus driver was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

Police are investigating all possible factors that could have led to the crash, including mechanical issues, speed and driver intoxication.
