Mystery deepens as police investigate suspicious death of woman whose body was found in bin in Epping, Melbourne

The mystery behind a woman’s body found in a wheelie bin at a waste management facility in Melbourne’s north has deepened.

Staff at Repurpose It on Cooper St in Epping, found the body while moving green waste on Wednesday.

Police believe the woman was inside a bin picked up outside a home in Coolaroo on Tuesday, July 2, which was then taken to the facility in Epping.

Homicide detectives spent Sunday searching the woman’s property in Coolaroo for clues into her death and fingerprinted bins outside the home.

Neighbours told 7NEWS the woman was “friendly” and had moved into her home just two months ago.

“It’s heartbreaking. To be killed and put in your own rubbish bin, she didn’t deserve to die that way,” one neighbour, who chose to remain anonymous, said.

Another neighbour called it “revolting”.

Police used a locksmith to get into the home of a couple who live on the same street as the woman on Sunday but are understood to be overseas in what was believed to have been an effort to access their CCTV cameras.

The woman has not yet been formally identified, with police awaiting the results of a post-mortem.

“An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death,” police said.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have any relevant CCTV or dash-cam footage, especially between Sunday June, 23 and Tuesday, July 2.

Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area during this time has also been urged to come forward.
