Newtown, Geelong shooting: Stolen car allegedly driven at police who opened fire in response
A person has been shot after a stolen car they were inside was allegedly driven at police officers in Geelong who responded by firing at them.
Victoria police have confirmed one of the car’s occupants, a 37-year-old man, was shot in the arm.
Police air surveillance spotted a stolen Kia Optima in Newtown near the intersection of Princes Highway and Roebuck Street at about 3.40pm.

Following this, it is alleged the Kia drove at officers who then discharged their firearm before the car collided with a second vehicle.
Video footage captures part of the collision and gunshots can be heard in the background.
The driver and the passenger both ran from the vehicle on foot but were arrested by police not far from the scene.
The 37-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second occupant of the car was a 37-year-old woman who was also transported to hospital under police guard with minor injuries.
The driver of the civilian car that was hit by the Kia also sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Victoria police said the investigation remains ongoing, but there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“Armed Crime Squad detectives will investigate the incident with Professional Standards Command oversight, as is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged,” police said in a statement.
“It is alleged the vehicle was stolen in New South Wales.”
