Police believe Essendon address was a target as cars set alight and driven into house

Victoria police are investigating a serious incident after two cars, an SUV and a ute, were set alight and one was sent barrelling toward an occupied house in Essendon overnight.

The cars were engulfed in flame and the ute came to rest near the entrance of the property, causing minor fire and structural damage.

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives were continuing investigations at the scene this morning.

It is understood two cars were set ablaze and at least one was driven through the fence of a property on McCracken Street about 2am.

A 47-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were home at the time but were not injured.

The home sustained minor damage to the front window.

The exact circumstances surrounding the fire are yet to be determined but early indications are the incident was a targeted attack.
