While officers were making enquiries, a man drove off in the Nissan, and police swiftly gave chase.

The driver and sole occupant rammed into the police sedan before slamming into a power pole.

He then reversed into a parked civilian vehicle before crashing into another power pole.

Police commenced a foot chase after he ran from the utility before using capsicum spray to arrest him on Eleanor Street.

The 36-year-old Footscray man was transported to hospital with minor injuries where he remains under police guard.

No one was injured as a result of the ramming.

Police believe that the Nissan was stolen from an address in Kalkallo sometime between September 4 and the early hours of September 5.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
