The man police allege killed a couple in Melbourne’s southeast has faced court for the first time.

Police located the 39-year-old woman and 50-year-old man at the property on Adrienne Crescent in Mount Waverley shortly before 10pm on Monday.

The couple has been identified as Athena Georgopoulos, who was five months pregnant with a baby girl, and her partner Andrew Gunn, The Herald Sun reports.

Flanked by two guards, he stumbled as he entered the court.

“I beg your pardon, yeah I’m all good,” he said.

Mr Judd was wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt and sported a short beard and hair spiked up in a faux-hawk.

The court was told police were seeking an extra 10 weeks to prepare a brief of evidence in the case.

Asked by Magistrate Johanna Metcalf to explain the reason for this, a police prosecutor said the case was “complex”.

“It’s a complex crime scene with significant amounts of DNA evidence,” she said.

The officer told the court there would be a delay caused by the two autopsies needed.

“One of the people was pregnant and I understand that caused delay,” she said.

Ms Metcalf granted the request, with Mr Judd set to return to court next year.

“So Mr Judd I am remanding you to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on the 13th of January for a committal case conference,” she said.

“Do you understand that?”

“Yeah I do,” he responded.

His lawyer Annie Allen noted this was the accused man’s first time in custody and requested he be seen by a custody nurse for “health issues”.

It has been reported Mr Gunn was decapitated in the killing.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas told the media on Tuesday officers suspected the man charged with the pair’s murder was known to them, and that one of them lived at the Mount Waverley property.

“It appears to be targeted and our suspect is known to the address,” he said.

Inspector Thomas said officers received a call for a welfare check “based on some yelling” from the property, and a second call minutes later.

He said the man was located with two large dogs before his arrest.

Images from the scene show scrawled on a property, including betrayal”, “enough is enough” and “karma”.

“Police are aware of graffiti on the property in Mount Waverley where the bodies of two people were located last night,” a police spokesman said.

“Homicide Squad detectives will work to determine if the graffiti is relevant to the murder investigation.”

Ms Georgopoulos’ aunt Patty Dilveridis told the Herald Sun her niece had been planning her new life as a mother.

“She was so looking forward to having a baby, because she was 39 (and) she never thought she could have one,” she said.

Ms Dilveridis said she had spoken to her niece a few nights earlier, and that she had been “very happy” and was “really looking forward to being a mum”.

She told the masthead Ms Georgopoulos had worked as a customer service representative for several electricity and insurance companies in recent years, and was the primary carer for her mother Petty Georgopoulos.
