A 14-year-old girl was hospitalised after a stabbing attack at a shopping centre on High St at Epping, in Melbourne’s north, on Friday.

She was found with stab wounds in her neck, back, legs and arm about 9.20pm.

She had been at the shopping centre with a friend when 7NEWS understands the two girls were allegedly set upon by another girl.

The security guard who tried to break up the fight at the shopping centre, a 19-year-old Lalor man, was also allegedy stabbed in the stomach.

The girls had tried to run away, but the alleged offender reportedly chased them down “and stabbed one of them several times before leaving the scene,” Victoria Police said.

The teenage victim’s sister told 7NEWS that the 14-year-old was struggling to breath after the alleged attack.

“They’ve punctured her lung, there’s a puncture in her spleen,” the sister told 7NEWS.

The 14-year-old girl and the security guard were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The security guard has now received stitches, 7NEWS understands.

Investigators executed a search warrant at Whittlesea home on Saturday and arrested a 17-year-old girl.

She was charged with intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, recklessly cause injury, affray, assault with weapon and unlawful assault.

She will face a children’s court at a later date.
