A woman is in hospital after she was allegedly shoved onto train tracks by a stranger in Melbourne, with a manhunt now underway.

The woman, aged in her 60s, was helped off the tracks and back onto the platform by bystanders at Richmond train station just before 4pm on Wednesday.

She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by paramedics called to the incident before being taken to Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Police do not believe the man who allegedly pushed her is known to the victim.

He fled the scene and remains on the run.

“The parties are not known to each other and the circumstances are yet to be determined at this stage,” police said.
