Woman and child drown in Dandenong Creek tragedy
A woman and child have have drowned after they fell into a creek and were swept away.
The pair fell into Dandenong Creek near Allan St in Dandenong, in Melbourne’s southeast, about 3.45pm on Monday, witnesses told police.

“Police conducted a search of the area and located the unconscious pair, pulling them from the water and starting CPR,” Victoria Police said.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, they were unable to be revived and declared deceased at the scene.”
The emergency triggered a major response from first responders, with one person posting on X, formerly Twitter, that there were “cops and SES everywhere”.
The two people pulled from the creek have not yet been formally identified.
A witness said the child was about seven or eight years of age.
“It’s very sad,” they said.

Locals told 7NEWS the creek has been running fast after two weeks of heavy rain.
A report will be prepared for the coroner and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
The double tragedy comes less than 24 hours after an eight-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a property in Kialla, near Shepparton, also in Victoria.
He received medical assistance but died at the scene.
