Police are investigating the cause of the blaze as the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman has died in a house fire in Melbourne’s southeast.

Emergency services attended the blaze at a home on Adelaide St, Murrumbeena about 1.40am on Thursday.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has not yet been formally identified.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire, which they do not believe is suspicious.

“An arson chemist is expected to attend later this morning,” Victoria Police said.
