Responding crews located the body of the pilot, who is believed to have been the sole occupant of the aircraft.

The second plane was able to land safely at the airfield and its pilot was uninjured.

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command have established two crime scenes and remain at the location as inquiries continue.

Members of the public have been urged to avoid the area.

No further details have been released.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the cause of the crash.
