The family of two WA women and an infant killed as they returned home from a funeral at the weekend have revealed what they believe caused the car crash.

Marrika Brockman, 33, her five-week-old son, Levi, and Marrika’s niece Gabrielle Brockman, 21, died when the Toyota HiLux they were in rolled on Geraldton–Mount Magnet Rd near Yalgoo, in the state’s Mid West, on Saturday night.

Both women’s partners and another man, believed to be the driver, were also injured, with Gabrielle’s partner in a critical condition.

The family had been returning to Geraldton after attending a funeral in Meekatharra.

Levi, who it is understood was being held by his mother in the back seat, and Gabrielle died at the scene.

Marrika, a mother of three, was rushed to hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Marrika was described by her devastated mother Cynthia Little as a “proud” parent who cheered on her children at football games and was a champion runner during her school years.

Gabrielle, who worked as a hotel cleaner, was described as a happy person who was always smiling and laughing.

Her mother Phyllis Little said she is struggling to cope with the loss of her eldest daughter, six years after her son died of the flu.

“I’m not holding up well at all. Lack of sleep, I haven’t eaten. The feeling when your kid gets taken off you just like that — I can’t even describe it,” she told the Geraldton Guardian.

Marrika’s parents say fatigue could have been a factor in the accident, with Cynthia agreeing and urging drivers to take a break when driving long distances.

“Have a nap on the side of the road, don’t be scared. Just pull up and have a sleep, no matter where you are, how far you are out of town,” she said.

Gabrielle’s partner remains in a critical condition in hospital, while Marrika’s partner is stable.

Another man understood to be the driver has been discharged from hospital.

The incident was described as “tragic” and “incomprehensible” by Mount Magnet Shire President Jim McGorman.

“They went to school here — my wife taught two of the girls involved in the incident, so it is quite close to a lot of us,” he told 7NEWS.

WA Premier Roger Cook also spoke on the tragedy on Sunday.

“It must have been a harrowing scene and we wish everyone who is touched by this incident all the best,” Cook said.

Major Crash officers are investigating and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
