A body has been recovered after a large warehouse fire in Perth’s southern suburbs.

The fire started at the marine engineering warehouse in O’Connor just after 3.30pm on Saturday.

The fire quickly took hold of the facility, used as a boat repair facility, sending toxic smoke into nearby areas.

Nearby residents were told to stay inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed.

Once the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found inside the building.

Arson squad detectives will probe the cause of the fire.

Some nearby roads are expected to remain closed on Sunday.
