Thousands of frustrated Westpac customers have been left unable to access their funds after a major outage reportedly affected the Big Four bank’s EFTPOS service.

In a statement on social media, the bank confirmed the problem.

“We’re aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues accessing banking services. Our teams are working to fix the issue. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and will continue to share updates here.”

Thousands of people have registered the outage with Down Detector.

One customer took to X, asking Westpc for answers.

“@westpac getting issuer down on EFTPOS machine. Is there an outage? they asked.

Another customer said they, too, were experiencing problems.

“Same here in SA, all BankSA (Westpac) cards declining, cannot access online banking.”

Westpac has been approached for comment.
