Two teenage drivers have died in separate crashes on Northern Territory roads at the weekend.

An 18-year-old woman suffered critical injuries when her sedan collided with a Landcruiser at the intersection of Coonawarra and Bombing roads, Winnellie in Darwin about 5.45pm on Sunday, police said.

She was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment but died shortly after arrival.

The driver of the Landcruiser, a 43-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and tested negative for alcohol and drugs.

Major Crash detectives are currently investigating the exact cause of the crash and wish to speak to anyone with CCTV or dashcam video.

On Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Stuart Hwy, about 30km south of Katherine, about 4.20am.

The fatalities bring the total lives lost on territory roads to 49.
