American Eagle eugenics scandal: All the celebrities who have spoken out against Sydney Sweeney
After months of public outcry over her American Eagle ad, celebrities are joining in on the shaming of Sydney Sweeney.
The Euphoria actress has been at the centre of Hollywood criticism since she was accused of promoting eugenics in her July jeans campaign, which featured the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans”.
Since then, social media has been rampant with Sweeney critiques, many of whom are hailing her as an ultra-right-wing MAGA supporter.

Sweeney was asked if she was surprised by the reaction to the ad.
“I did a jean ad. I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life,” she said.
She was also asked if there was anything she wanted to say about the ad, with the interviewer prompting her with this context: “The criticism of the content was basically that, maybe specifically in this political climate, white people shouldn’t joke about genetic superiority”.
In response, Sweeney said, “I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.”
She did not condemn the ad or apologise.
Jupiter Baal, an Instagram creator and essayist, made a video in response to the viral GQ clips.
“She was given an opportunity to push back, but she didn’t. Therefore, she is in on it,” Baal said.
Christina Ricci liked the video and backed it by commenting “100%”.

Sweeney is not short of supporters, however, with many flooding GQ’s Instagram comments claiming her critiques were overreacting.
“Sydney Sweeney didn’t take the bait. Unapologetic for being HOT! Love it!” one user commented.
“Can’t love her more. Put the liberal journalist in her place with one mic drop.”
