Australian singer Tones and I has appeared in court after her American bulldog fatally attacked a 17-year-old cavoodle.

The shocking incident took place in November last year while the singer, whose real name is Toni Elizabeth Watson, was showering in her Mornington Peninsula mansion.

A court was told on Thursday that Watson’s neighbour, Wayne Schultz, was walking his two cavoodles in the area when he spotted Watson’s other dog, a chocolate Labrador named Charlie, outside her Mount Eliza property, unable to get back in because the gate was shut.

Mr Schultz flagged down a friend of Watson’s, Tahlia, just as she arrived at the singer songwriter’s home, to let her know that Charlie was outside.

When Tahlia opened the gate to bring the Labrador inside, the American bulldog bolted from the property and launched onto Mr Schultz’s cavoodle’s neck.

By the time Boss released the cavoodle from his jaws, it had died from its injuries, the court was told.

Mr Schultz was bitten on the knee and left with a bruised eye, while a nearby resident who rushed to help fractured his hand trying to separate the two dogs.

It is believed that Watson kindly offered to pay for the cavoodle’s cremation, however Mr Schultz wouldn’t accept.

Watson has been ordered to pay a $3000 fine for failing to securely confine the two dogs and failing to re-register the American bulldog.
