The HR executive caught in the viral Coldplay kiss cam controversy has defended her closeness with company bosses, saying it was normal for her to have tight relationships with chief executives she worked with.

Kristin Cabot, who was filmed in the arms of her boss Andy Byron during a Coldplay concert in July 2025, has spoken about the scandal in a new interview with Oprah Winfrey for The Oprah Podcast.

The moment that sparked the scandal occurred during the Coldplay show when the pair appeared on the stadium’s kiss cam, with frontman Chris Martin joking from the stage about a possible “affair” as Byron tried to duck out of view.

“Oh look at these two. Come on, you’re okay. Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy,” Chris Martin commented as the crowd roared with laughter.

The clip quickly went viral around the world, fuelling intense scrutiny because both Cabot and Byron were married at the time.

Both later left the tech company Astronomer, where Byron had been CEO and Cabot served as chief people officer.

During the new interview with Oprah, Cabot revealed she nearly ran into her estranged husband at the same concert, but insisted he would not have been surprised to see her spending time with her boss.

“So, you get to the concert and what happened?” Winfrey asked.

“Well, I was walking into the concert and my daughter messaged me and said, ‘Oh, it’s so great that you and Andrew are both at Coldplay,’ ” Cabot said.

“So she let me know that my estranged husband was also at the concert.”

Cabot said the message made her briefly wonder if it would be awkward if he spotted her with Byron.

“And in my mind, I thought, ‘Well, that’s — is this going to be weird if he sees me with Andy?’ Like, if I run into him,” she said.

“But then I was like, ‘I’m in Gillette Stadium. There’s 55,000 people here. I’m probably not going to run into him.’”

Looking back, she joked the situation might actually have been easier if they had bumped into each other.

“That would have been better at the end of the day if I just run into him (estranged husband),” she said with a laugh.

Cabot insisted her husband was aware of how closely she worked with Byron and that their friendship outside the office wasn’t unusual in her role.

“He knows how closely Andy and I worked together. He knows we social and got lunches and got drinks. It was fine,” she said.

“He knows the nature of my work and the way the relationships, I’ve shared desks with the CEOs I’ve worked with,” Cabot continued.

“Like it’s just a very close relationship and so it didn’t matter.”

Cabot is expected to discuss the fallout from the scandal — including online abuse and threats — when the full interview with Winfrey is released.

Cabot has also spoken extensively about the fallout from the scandal in interviews with The New York Times and The Times in December, 2025.

Speaking to the New York Times, she admitted the night at the concert was a mistake that came with enormous consequences. “I made a bad decision and had a couple of High Noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss,” she said.

“And it’s not nothing. I took accountability, and I gave up my career for that. That’s the price I chose to pay. I want my kids to know that you can make mistakes, and you can really screw up, but you don’t have to be threatened to be killed for them.”

In a separate interview with The Times, Cabot also criticised actress Gwyneth Paltrow after she appeared in a promotional video for Astronomer shortly after the viral scandal.

“And then she did this. I thought ‘how dare she after the beating she got for all the conscious uncoupling stuff.’ What a hypocrite,” Cabot said, adding she threw out her Goop products after seeing the clip.
