Deborra-Lee Furness has reportedly shocked ex-husband Hugh Jackman and his new partner, Broadway legend Sutton Foster, after requesting to meet face-to-face with the couple.

The request comes after Jackman and Foster attended the Met Gala earlier this month together in a move that hit a sore spot with Furness, 71, who separated from Jackman in 2023 after nearly three decades of marriage.

An inside source from New Idea explained the high-profile appearance was hurtful because the New York fundraising event was always Furness’ “territory”.

“Deb had been warned Hugh would be appearing with Sutton but it still felt like a knife to the heart seeing them there,” the source said.

“This was her and Hugh’s ‘big night out’ for the year and they were there side-by-side, just like Sutton is today, just four years ago.

The former couple regularly attended the annual gala together over the years, with their last joint appearance being back in September 2023.

“Last year when it looked like Hugh wanted to take Sutton, Deb indicated she might be going but simply couldn’t face it in the end,” the insider added.

“So, watching Hugh and Sutton parade around the city, openly flaunting their romance and mingling with all the same people they used to socialise with as a couple, is incredibly painful and humiliating.”

But the insider claims the high-profile outing served as a catalyst for Furness, who is now said to be seeking an in person conversation with Jackman and Foster for the first time since the former couple went their separate ways.

Despite the emotional weight of the situation, the source insists Furness is approaching the matter with composure.

“This isn’t about Deb being angry or wanting to read Sutton the riot act,” the New Idea insider said.

“It’s about closure.”

Furness’ request comes after Jackman listed the Manhattan penthouse that he once shared with Furness.

The property was first listed in June 2022 for $5.7 million (USD$39.9m) but it was taken off the market two months later and instead rented out for $180,000 ($US125,000).

Earlier this month the New York penthouse hit the market for a $16m price cut — at a price guide of $39.7m (USD$28.7m).

It has been reported that Jackman, 57, had been living in the penthouse with Foster, 51, while they hunted for their “perfect family home”. A situation said to have “shattered” Furness.

“Deb is shattered knowing Sutton is making the penthouse her own — the place she poured her soul into,” a source told Sky News at the time.
