Ed Sheeran: Singer recounts boozy night out with Chris Hemsworth and his daughter’s reaction to meeting Thor
Meeting in 2023, the Sheeran and Hemsworth families got on like a house on fire.
Pop superstar Ed Sheeran has recounted the moment he was first introduced to good mate and actor Chris Hemsworth, recalling his daughter’s hilarious reaction to meeting the “beautiful” Thor star.
In a wide-ranging chat with the Warnes Way podcast, Sheeran explained how the pair’s friendship origin story began while he and his family were staying in Hemsworth’s native town of Byron Bay in 2023 ahead of a scheduled show in Brisbane during his Mathematics tour.
Offered a chance to break bread with the action hero by his local tour promoter, the Brit told host Jackson Warne — son of late cricket icon Shane — that he jumped at the chance.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“She was just like, ‘Do you want to go and have a beer with Chris?’ So I went up to his house with my wife and kids, and his wife and kids were there, and his mates, his brothers, and we just sort of linked then,” the singer recalled.
If the friendship between the Sheeran and Hemsworth families was “solidified” during their initial encounter, it was a boozy night out soon afterwards that truly bonded them.
“It was my birthday in Brisbane, and I got a party bus back to Byron with him and his brothers and my mates, and again, it was a loose bus, but that was like, when you have a night with someone, and you’re like, ‘I think we’re gonna get on,” Sheeran added.
“My daughter, so he came to stay at the house, and he read her a bedtime story, and I went in to read her the last bedtime time story,” he continued.
“She went daddy, ‘Who was that beautiful man?”
“You were like, ‘oh, that’s just the God of thunder,” Jackson added.
“Exactly, yeah. I loved it,” Sheeran said.
The pair’s connection has only strengthened since, with Hemsworth invited to perform a drum cameo for the Brit on stage in Romania to 70,000 screaming fans.
Challenged to learn the instrument by Sheeran, the actor’s performance was captured for his documentary series Limitless with Chris Hemsworth which explored the cognitive benefits of learning a new skill.
A mural of the pair arm wrestling was unveiled at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne during Sheeran’s Loop tour earlier this year.
