Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has fled the US after President-elect Donald Trump secured a second term in the White House.

The former talk show host and her Australian wife Portia de Rossi have reportedly moved to the Cotswolds in rural England and are preparing to sell their Montecito estate near Los Angeles.

TheWrap reported a source close to the star as saying DeGeneres had told friends she would never return to America and that Mr Trump was the main deciding factor.

The listing for her luxurious home is not yet live, however, sources suggest it’s not far off.

Despite a second Trump administration fuelling DeGeneres’ move, she may have had other reasons for pursuing the tree change.

After a now infamous interview with Dakota Johnson, DeGeneres has effectively been “cancelled”.

In the exchange, DeGeneres asked Johnson how her birthday party was before saying “I wasn’t invited”.

“Actually no that’s not the truth Ellen, you were invited,” Johnson said.

“The last time I was on the show, last year, you gave me a heap of Sh*t for not inviting you. I didn’t even know you liked me.

“I did invite you and you didn’t come.”

“This time you invited me? Are you sure?” Ellen asked.

“Ask everybody,” Johnson replied.

Although it at first appeared to just be a viral and uncomfortable interview, it sparked a movement by current and former staff who made allegations of racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation against executive producers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

After an investigation, three top executives were fired, and DeGeneres issued an apology to her audience, claiming she was unaware of the racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation but took responsibility as it was her show.

Ratings dwindled and eventually, two years later, The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired its final episode.

Since then, DeGeneres has spoken out about being “kicked out” of the business for being “mean”, however, has been able to secure contracts for comedy specials on streaming services and has continued touring.

The Cotswolds could offer DeGeneres and de Rossi a fresh start in an area inhabited by the rich and famous.

Other A-listers calling the lucrative area home include Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Hurley, Hugh Grant, Jeremy Clarkson, Kate Moss, JK Rowling, Lilly Allen, and Kate Moss.
