Gird your loins. The first teaser trailer for Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially here.

The sequel to the iconic 2006 film is still six months away from its May 1 release, but fans are already buzzing after a first-look trailer revealed the return of Meryl Streep as the ruthless Runway Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway as her not-so-green assistant Andy Sachs.

Set to Madonna’s Vogue, a nod to the original movie, the teaser opens with the click of red heels striding through a bustling Runway office.

Quick cuts flash scenes of high-fashion chaos, celebrities on red carpets, gowns being zipped, champagne popping and cameras flashing.

As the mystery woman steps into an elevator, the camera pans to reveal Miranda Priestly, sunglasses perched and white pixie cut intact.

Just before the door closes, a hand slips in. Andy Sachs joins her former boss.

“Miranda,” Sachs says.

“Took you long enough,” Priestly replies.

The trailer closes by confirming the return of Emily Blunt as the ambitious Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as the adored Nigel Kipling, sending fans into a frenzy after nearly two decades of waiting.

Kenneth Branagh will also join the cast as Priestly’s new husband. The film will also feature Simone Ashley, Rachel Bloom and Lucy Liu, as well as speculated cameos from Lady Gaga and Sydney Sweeney.

“I can’t contain my excitement,” one fan wrote on Instagram.

“This is going to be iconic,” said another.

“We’ve reached unprecedented levels of being back, it’s not even funny,” wrote a third.

The sequel, again directed by David Frankel, will see Priestly dealing with the collapse of the magazine industry, now forced to build bridges with her former assistant, Charlton (Blunt), who is now the head of a luxury brand and its advertising spend.

The original 2006 comedy, based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, made over $US326 million at the global box office.

Blunt, who was nominated for an Oscar for her turn in Oppenheimer, spoke about the highly anticipated release in an interview in September.

“When we made the first movie, none of us expected the meteoric life that it would have and the impact it would have on people,” she told Porter Magazine.

“As my husband (actor and director John Krasinski) said to me the other day, this is people’s nostalgia bank. They’ve watched this with their families 50, 60 times; they’ve watched it when their parents are sick; they’ve watched it when they’re sad, when they’ve gone through a break-up.

“Of course, I meet people who will quote the movie to me, but I’m not sure I’ve ever been hit with a bombardment of the realisation of what the movie is to people coming back to the film set. And that’s what we all feel, holy cow. That’s what everyone says, every day: holy sh.t.”
