Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer: Miranda Priestley hasn’t changed and that’s how it should be
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is only three months away, and the first proper trailer is reminding fans of the original film’s razor-sharp wit.

Florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, but apparently it’s good enough to be plastered all over a massive banner outside the fictional Met Gala in The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer.
The little in-joke is just one of the gems the just released trailer has in store in fans who will remember Miranda putting down an underling who dared suggest a concept for a photoshoot, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking”.
The sequel to the 2006 favourite is nearing ever closer to its April 30 release date, so when the film’s official Instagram account teased this morning that the first proper trailer was imminent, glossed and manicured nails were drumming in excitement.

The trailer opens with Stanley Tucci’s Nigel in voiceover, “Runway, it’s not just a magazine, it’s a global icon. A winding road that brings us back, together again.”

Then it cuts to a scene in Miranda Priestley’s pristine office, with Andy Sachs popping her head in with a chipper hello. Nigel, ever with a cutting but affectionate remark, intones, “Look what TJ Maxx dragged in”.
Only for Miranda to respond, “Sorry, who is this, do you know her, do I know her?”.
Hopefully it’s not a case of oncoming dementia (wouldn’t that be a twist for audiences looking for a fun romp, only to be confronted with a sombre drama about the ravages of ageing and declining health) and it’s merely Miranda being imbued with an overabundance of main character energy.
The gag is repeated in a later scene with Emily, in which the grand dame of fashion publishing expresses surprise again that Emily and Andy are also acquainted.
The rest of the trailer is interspersed with the glitz and glamour of the high fashion world, with shots of helicopters, speed boats, Maybach cars and sojourns in Milan.
There’s also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of Australian actor Patrick Brammall, who is playing a character that’s supposed to be Andy’s love interest. You can see him twirling her outside a restaurant.
The film is expected to explore how the core characters are navigating the changing publishing and fashion industries.

There have long been demand for a sequel to the original film, which was based on a novel by Lauren Weisberger, a one-time assistant to Vogue US editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the inspiration for Miranda.
When the 2006 was being filmed, the powerful Wintour had allegedly blocked many New York institutions and fashion designers from working with the production.
Relations have since thawed, and Wintour has even said, to New Yorker editor David Renmick’s podcast in September, she thought the movie, “had a lot of humour to it, it had a lot of wit, it had Meryl Streep”.
She had added, “In the end, I thought it was a fair shot”.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 started filming in June and with many exterior scenes, many of the movie’s costumes have been plastered all over the internet.
In addition to Streep, Tucci, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, Tracie Thoms and Feldman will also reprise their roles from the 2006 film. Newcomers include Kenneth Branagh, who has been cast as Miranda’s husband, and Justin Theroux as Emily’s spouse.
Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Simone Ashley, Michael Imperioli, Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, Rachel Bloom and B.J. Novak are also expected to be in the wider ensemble.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in cinemas on April 30
