Razzie Awards: Rebel Wilson, Snow White and The Electric State nominated for ‘worst’ film awards

Hollywood’s awards season can be so serious and earnest, so it’s always a good reminder that the same industry that made One Battle After Another was also responsible for Snow White.
There are two sides to that coin.
That’s why we love the annual Razzie Awards, the ceremony dedicated to calling out the worst of the Hollywood turkeys of the year. It’s a little bit spicy, and a handy guide on what to avoid.

For the record, that’s an Ice Cube-starring adaptation of H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic, which Eva Longoria and Clark Gregg also had the unfortunate distinction of being a part of. Someone needs to have a stern word with their agent. Hope they were at least paid well.
Other multiple nominees include the live-action/heavy CGI remake of Snow White, which sparked a culture war and tanked the box office. Talk about hitting all the wrong marks.
There’s also Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow, in which he plays a fictionalised version of himself – and it’s quite the achievement to have been nominated for a worst actor award when all you’re doing is being you.

Michelle Yeoh may be an Oscar winner but she’s also a Razzie nominee this year, having been dinged for her lead role in the Star Trek spin-off movie Section 31. The film nabbed five nominations in total.
But at least Section 31 didn’t cost more than $US300 million to make, which The Electric State did, a Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown Netflix extravaganza from the Russo brothers. It’s up for three Razzies.
Since we always make a thing out of Australians getting nominated, it would be remiss to not mention Rebel Wilson’s nomination for worst actress, for her role in Bride Hard, which had three noms in total.
The Razzies are always awarded the night before the Oscars, and in the past, some good-natured stars have shown up in person to collect their trophy, including Halle Berry and Jamie Dornan. Sandra Bullock showed up to collect her Razzie in 2010 and the next night, won an Oscar.
Wonder if anyone will turn up this year. Probably not Jared Leto, he takes himself way too seriously.
