Succession creator Jesse Armstrong will take his sharp insights and witty barbs to a new project, a movie he’s writing for HBO.
The film will follow four friends during a global financial crisis and production is expected to start later this year. That’s as much detail as there is for the moment, and it’s not clear if the feature will be about a fictional global financial crisis or a historical one such as the 2007-2008 event.
American cable network HBO currently has a licencing deal with Foxtel/Binge in Australia but that is set to expire in the first half of this year. Warner Bros, HBO’s parent company, has confirmed its intentions to launch its own streaming service, Max, in this market.

Armstrong will serve as executive producer alongside Frank Rich. They were both EPs on Succession.
The British writer won seven Emmys for his work on Succession, which chronicled the dramas of the fictional Roy family, a media dynasty inspired by real life counterparts including the Murdochs, Sinclairs and Redstones.
He won a writing for every year the series was on as well as three outstanding drama gongs.
Armstrong has also been nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay for In the Loop, which he co-wrote with Armando Iannucci, Simon Blackwell and Tony Roche. In the Loop was a spin-off of The Thick of It, on which he penned 15 episodes.
His other works includes Downhill, Peep Show, Veep and Babylon. He’s known for his cutting satirical take.
