Keith Urban has become emotional during a performance.

An emotional Keith Urban held back tears while singing about an ex moving on, weeks after Nicole Kidman was spotted with a new man.

On Friday, the musician performed at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, where he sang his song We Go Back from his latest album Flow State.

The album was released five months after his divorce from the Australian actress was finalised.

Kidman has since been spotted spending time with businessman Michael Reinstein during a European getaway, with the pair appearing close during several outings.

During his show, Urban shared the story behind his track, saying it was about childhood sweethearts who split up after “the guy screwed up”.

“This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town,” he told audiences, The Daily Mail reported.

“They were the first of their friends to fall in love.

“They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up.”

Urban then added, “Oh, we’ll do that” before saying “years and years go by” before they cross paths.

“This guy can’t believe it,” Urban said.

“He sees the girl, she looks exactly the same.

“They start talking, they are getting along great.

“She tells him she’s got somebody else.”

He explained that the chorus of the song includes the lines, “I know I never should have let you go. I was young and dumb, and I messed it all up bad.

“You tell me that it’s too late now, ‘cause there’s somebody new around. But what we’ve got is the one thing you’ll never have. We go back.”

After performing several songs, including We Go Back, Urban became very emotional on stage.

The Daily Mail reported that, at one stage, the 58-year-old crouched down on stage and appeared to wipe away a tear.

He then had a moment to compose himself before telling the audience, “This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City”.

‘She’s got somebody else’

Last month, Kidman and Reinstein were photographed deep in conversation outside Kidman’s hotel in Portofino, Italy, where they shared a lingering farewell on the patio of her suite.

The pair were later spotted relaxing beside the pool at the Belmond Splendido Hotel, sipping Aperol Spritzes and chatting together.

Their time together has seemingly extended beyond Europe, with Reinstein later spotted collecting Kidman from an airport in Los Angeles before the pair drove away together in his Ferrari.

Urban’s emotional performance comes mere weeks after Kidman opened up about the breakdown of her 19-year marriage in an interview with British Vogue, revealing she is still grappling with the question: “Where am I going? And what’s next?”

Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025, bringing almost two decades of marriage to an end.

“I’m like, ‘OK, I didn’t expect this, I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now’,” she said.

“You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s … not.

“You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now … Strange.”

The Big Little Lies star admitted there had been moments when she felt “very fearful and deeply vulnerable”, but said she ultimately faced a choice over how she would move forward.

“And then at the same time (I’m) going, ‘Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope’,” she said.

Kidman and Urban’s divorce was finalised a little over three months after proceedings began, without the former couple having to fight their case in court.

According to court documents obtained by People, the pair agreed to waive child and spousal support and established a parenting plan for their daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.
