They were at the pub to have a drink and enjoy the vibes of Irish band Beoga — but were left gobsmacked when Ed Sheeran walked on stage unannounced.

The superstar belted out several of his hits during the show at Sydney’s Paddington RSL on Thursday night.

Sheeran shocked pub-goers when he appeared as a surprise guest during a headline set by Beoga — just hours before kicking off a massive three-night stadium run in the Harbour City.

Midway through the Irish folk-fusion band’s set, Sheeran emerged guitar in hand to roaring applause.

He joined Beoga, who are supporting him on his Australian tour, belting out high-energy hits Shape Of You, Galway Girl and Wild Mountain Thyme.

Fans packed into the small venue could hardly believe their luck, with videos of the impromptu performance quickly circulating online.

The stripped-back cameo was a sharp contrast to the 80,000-plus fans Sheeran will perform for at Accor Stadium on Friday night and over the weekend.

The intimate pub show officially launched the Sydney leg of his Mathematics/Loop Tour — and sparked speculation more surprise gigs could be on the cards.
