Perth Festival will open with a blockbuster Australian exclusive. ROHTKO plays for eight nights at His Majesty’s Theatre from 5 to 13 February, direct from major European stages. Trailblazing Polish director Łukasz Twarkowski fuses theatre, tech and live cinema to create a monumental, technically dazzling show. It’s a high-energy thriller that mixes live performance and electronic music with art-world intrigue, money, deception and international settings. It looks and sounds more like a night out than a night at the theatre, and it won’t be seen anywhere else in Australia.
Summer on the river
East Perth Power Station is back as Perth Festival’s riverside summer hub, and the music line-up is strong. The industrial relic-turned-cultural hub offers free live music at Casa Musica, plus food, drink and the iconic Main Stage.
Foy Vance and The Paper Kites take the stage on Sunday 7 February. Perth act Methyl Ethel plays 13 Feb, and US-based DJ Shadow brings his 30-year-old masterpiece, Endtroducing, on 19 Feb. On Sunday 28 February, Australian electronic favourites The Avalanches close Perth Festival with songs from their new album No Bad Memories and highlights from a career that has made them international favourites.
A little music, a little mischief
Back in the CBD, Perth Town Hall is reimagined as The Embassy, a late-night, jazz-inspired lounge with a cabaret feel. Expect world-class musicians such as The Huxleys, Endea Owens and Salty Brine in an intimate setting.
A second European visionary
Operation:Orfeo plays at His Majesty’s Theatre from 25 to 27 February. This hypnotic visual opera retells the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through light, architecture and illusion, with the Latvian Radio Choir performing music by Bo Holten. It was first seen in Australia at the 1996 Adelaide Festival and is back for just four performances.
Art in unexpected places
Perth Festival lights up the Boorloo Bridge, brings exhibitions and visual arts into galleries and surprising spaces, and turns a cathedral into an atmospheric concert venue for the Sanctum Series, its fine music program. If you like to stumble on something special, try Astral Weeks, with its secret gigs and intimate performances. Be quick, these sell-out fast. And for four months, Somerville Auditorium at UWA hosts outdoor cinema under the pines for Lotterywest Films starting with the Australian premiere of the satirical The Debut starring Julianne Moore.
A festival with a sense of place
Perth Festival is grounded on Noongar Boodjar, and First Nations programming and storytelling sit alongside leading Australian and international artists. Now in its third year under Artistic Director Anna Reece, the program spans contemporary music, film, theatre, dance, visual arts and classical music. It has drawn a younger crowd without losing the loyalty of the established arts audience.
One of Australia’s longest-running international arts festivals, Perth Festival will bring music, theatre, dance, film and visual arts to Noongar Boodjar on 5-28 February 2027, transforming Perth’s distinctive spaces into vibrant summer celebrations. Visit the website for more info.
