Kylie Minogue is producing a three-part documentary series for Netflix exploring her career.

In a new documentary coming to Netflix on May 20, pop princess Kylie Minogue opens up about her life like never before, including details about her famed relationship with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997.

“I was 21 when we met — and I was really impressionable,” she is quoted as saying in the documentary’s press kit.

“And I mean that in the best possible way.

“He just had such an impact on me.

“He was a smart, kind, deep, artistic and interesting human, and we went on this beautiful journey of a relationship.

“His passing in 1997 was a loss to so many, including myself.”

Minogue said her emotions surrounding her two-year relationship with the pop superstar remain “suspended in memory.”

“People wonder why I’m still so moved by [that relationship], and it’s for many reasons,” she said.

“One of those is that he was one of my first big steps into adulthood and into the wider world.

“A world of possibility and discovery.

“Travel, literature, excess, connections, art, artistry, expression, performance and on and on and on the list goes!

“I was the perfect age for that moment.”

Though she has lived a life in the spotlight — she started as a child actor on Australian shows in the 1970s — the 57-year-old singer has always maintained a degree of secrecy about her private life.

But in this three-part documentary, she is set to lift the lid about personal aspects of her life, including her early rise to fame, her time performing, her romantic relationships, as well as her very public battle with breast cancer.

The documentary will feature never-before-seen footage from Minogue’s personal archives.

“Kylie herself (provided) the footage from every decade, from around the world,” the documentary’s director, Michael Harte, said.

“Kylie’s brother was a cameraman, so he was always around with a camera, which is the greatest thing you can wish for when making a documentary.”

There is also rare footage of a holiday Minogue took with ex-boyfriend, Neighbours co-star Jason Donovan, who features in the doco, alongside Nick Cave and Pete Waterman, who also take part.

“Jason’s [Donovan] footage of us on holiday. I was like…’What?’” she told Netflix.

“This was going back to the days where people only had a camera if they went on holiday.

“I imagine it was quite an effort to find that.

“When I saw that footage for the first time, my heart swelled.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, we were just babies’.

“That brought back tidal waves of nostalgia, emotion, and a lot of love.

“I think he’s hilarious [when he’s speaking] as well.”

Minogue’s extended family appear in the documentary, including her sister Dannii, who is featured in the trailer speaking emotionally about her sister’s cancer journey.

“Aside from my sister, Dannii, who is well versed in this world, there has never been any sit–down interview with my parents or my brother,” Mingue said of the process of filming.

“They really prefer to be behind the scenes.

“But in this documentary, you do see some of our real family moments — family visiting tour rehearsals and being backstage with me and then all of us relaxing around the open fire at the farm.”

This is the first time Minogue has agreed to take part in a documentary about her life, and she said she knew she had met the right person to tell her story when she first connected with producer John Battsek in 2020.

“I felt like I had met the person to bring (my story) to life and that I was at a good point in my life to take this leap of faith,” she said.

“I thought ‘What am I scared of’ and once again, like so many other times in my career, I decided to go with my instinct and give it a try.”

Kylie is coming to Netflix on May 20.
