Noah Wyle: New ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ recalls hilarious Eddie Murphy encounter as a kid
Actor Noah Wyle has recalled a hilarious yet slightly regrettable encounter he shared with a comedy legend years before he became a TV star in his own right.

Actor Noah Wyle has recalled a hilarious yet slightly regrettable encounter he shared with comedy legend Eddie Murphy as a child.
The man recently crowned People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” recently appeared on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, sharing experiences from his time in Hollywood and casting on medical TV dramas ER and The Pitt.
However, it was an anecdote from the 55-year-old’s youth that particularly amused Poehler.

“And he goes, ‘What are you doing up that late?’”
Wyle then feigned a childish laugh, mimicking his younger self, with Poehler cackling at his animated portrayal.
“And I said, ‘Can I have your autograph?’”
To which Murphy allegedly responded: “F... off man.”

A hysterical Poehler then learned Wyle was just nine at the time of his soured interaction.
He suggested the memory had influenced moments he shares with fans all these years later.
“So I always sign an autograph,” the actor declared.
Wyle added that his 10-year-old daughter had surprised him for his birthday last year with a printed image of Murphy, equipped with a message his younger self would have cherished reading.
“Dear Noah, you’re a great kid. Eddie Murphy,” it read.
However, the actor did notice his daughter had incorrectly spelled the comedian’s first name, writing, “Eddy”.
The TV star has enjoyed a surge in popularity since season one of hit series The Pitt was released in January 2025.

Portraying emergency department doctor Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on the show, he has claimed the lead male actor in a drama series award at the Emmys for the past two years.
A more tongue-in-cheek marker of Wyle’s success is his crown as People’s coveted “Sexiest Man Alive”, announced earlier this week.
The past five winners of the award were Jonathon Bailey, John Krasinski, Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, and Paul Rudd.
