The Housemaid author Freida McFadden reveals her true name and doctor job
‘I’m at a point in my career when I’m tired of this being a secret.’

The Housemaid author, Freida McFadden, has finally revealed her real identity after years of hiding behind a pseudonym, releasing best-selling thrillers.
McFadden recently had the popular novel adapted into a movie starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, and there is a sequel on the way.
With her writing career taking off — she has more books on the way — the writer thought now was a good time to finally reveal her true identity to the world.

“I’m at a point in my career when I’m tired of this being a secret,” she told USA Today.
“I’m tired of people debating if I’m a real person or if I’m three men.
“I am a real person, and I have a real identity, and I don’t have anything to hide.
“My whole goal was to keep it a secret until I was (ready to) step back from my doctor job, so it wouldn’t be like everyone I work with suddenly knew and it compromised my ability to do my job.

In late 2023, she stopped working full-time, adding, “But I have stepped away from my job. I’m only working like once or twice a month.”
She has also been wearing a wig out in public, but according to the author, it’s only because she has “no idea how to style my hair”.
When some of her co-workers at the hospital discovered it was, in fact, Sara behind the popular nail-biting novels, McFadden said they did her a solid by keeping their lips sealed.
Many of them were fans of her books and had no idea they were working with the author herself.

“Even though I haven’t told my real name until now, I feel like I have shared the real me all along and everything I’ve told them has been the truth,” McFadden said.
“Even though the name will be a surprise, nothing else will. I’ve always been genuine with my readers.”
The Housemaid 2 is set for release on December 17, 2027 and production is planned to get underway later this year.
Sweeney will reprise her role as Millie in the sequel and Kirsten Dunst joins the cast.
