Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban split: Times celebrities including Naomi Watts, Jimmy Fallon praised relationship

It’s fair to say any celebrity marriage close to 20 years is rare, especially those comprising high profile stars the likes of A-listers Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.

And while the pair’s relationship has naturally been scrutinised by fans and followers for the past two decades, it’s safe to say many of the couple’s famous friends didn’t see this split coming.

Here’s a list of occasions Hollywood stars have praised Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s relationship

Russell Crowe (2005)

The Gladiator star protected the pair’s blossoming love during the early stages of their relationship, confirming they had begun dating in 2005 and that Kidman was in a happy place.

“I’ve spoken to Nicole a couple of times recently and it was clear she’s enjoying great happiness right now,” Crowe said.

“Hanging out with Keith is giving her a lot of joy and I’m happy for her.”

However, the star warned the his fellow Aussies they should keep a low profile to avoid finding themselves in the spotlight too soon — much like Crowe’s own ill-fated fling with Meg Ryan that began in 2000.

“A relationship under that microscope doesn’t get the chance to evolve. It happened to me some years back. My summer was ruined as we were never left alone,” he added.

Jimmy Fallon (2015)

In an interview that will go down as one of the late night host’s most viewed ever (64 million and counting on YouTube), Kidman attended his show as a guest where she revealed how Fallon embarrassingly and obliviously fumbled a “date” with her.

After the pair offered their respective recollections of their encounter at Fallon’s apartment before he was a major Hollywood star, the red-faced talk show host suggested Kidman had made the better choice by marrying Urban.

“You made a much better decision — Keith Urban is so much cooler than I am. He is a rock star,” Fallon said.

With the pair in hysterics as they joked about their modern day chemistry, Fallon reiterated they were both in awe of Urban’s talent and personality.

“We love Keith, we love Keith, he’s been on the show,” Fallon said, before being cut off.

“I love Keith!” Kidman blurted, “We’re now fighting over Keith”.

Reese Witherspoon (2018)

Ok, this one is not exactly a public declaration from Kidman’s Big Little Lies co-star, but rather an admission from Kidman of what her and her husband did in the company of her real life US neighbour Witherspoon.

Speaking to Allure Magazine, Kidman said the Legally Blonde star would catch the two Aussies going for a morning dip outside their house.

“Reese is our next-door neighbour. Reese will be going, ‘What are you doing in the water, you lovebirds?’ She’ll tease us because she rarely goes in the ocean. ‘You crazy Australian kids’,” Kidman told the magazine.

Naomi Watts (2024)

When Kidman received the 2024 AFI Life Achievement award for her service to the industry, fellow Aussie Naomi Watts opted to highlight her friendship with Kidman when paying tribute to the star in a heartfelt speech.

Meeting in Sydney’s north shore as teens at a casting call for a swimwear shoot, Watts praised the mother and family woman’s loyalty to her loved ones.

“Nicole always holds her beautiful family so close — Antonia (Kidman’s sister) who’s here, beautiful Keith, beautiful Sunny (Sunday Rose) and Faith.”

In wake of Kidman and Urban’s split claims, a source told PEOPLE that it’s Antonia who is now keeping the family together.

“Nicole’s sister has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” the source said.
