Binge has released the first official trailer for its forthcoming series, Run, which is based on the story of infamous bankrobber, Brenden Abbott, aka ‘The Postcard Bandit.’

The Binge Original series, which is set in the 1980s and 90s and stars George Mason (The Power of the Dog) in the central role, was filmed in Fremantle and Western Australia earlier this year.

It will premiere on New Year’s Day, with all six episodes dropping at once.

“The extraordinary life of Australia’s most notorious bank robber, Brenden Abbott, is dramatised in this action-packed series about his unprecedented career in crime and chaotic life on the run,” an official release reads.

Joining Mason are Robyn Malcolm, most recently seen in another Western Australian drama, Mystery Road, which shot in Pemberton last year.

Other key cast members include Ashleigh Cummings (Citadel) and Keiynan Lonsdale (Swift Street) who play “pivotal figures” in Abbott’s turbulent life.

Run is not the only series to have used Fremantle as a filming location this year: the BBC Original series Reckless and the recently announced romantic comedy Twice Over have also chosen WA’s Port City in which to film.

Production commenced this week for Twice Over, which sees Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Heaton joining a strong cast of WA actors, including Jennah Bannear (The Twelve, The Heights), Georgia Wilkinson-Derums (Bassendream, Cleverman), Clarence Ryan (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Mystery Road: Origin) and Austen Wilmot (The Surfer).

Run premieres Thursday January 1 on Foxtel and Binge.
