It’s au revoir, Paris and ciao, Roma!

Emily in Paris has released the trailer for the second half of its fourth season (yes, Netflix broke the release into two segments, a month apart) and the physically if not culturally intrepid American is jetsetting off to Italy.

But is the Eternal City ready for Emily Cooper’s penchant to steamroll through ancient civilisations by just being her perky self, insisting that everyone else bends to her will?

Take, for example, a scene in the trailer in which she and Gabriele are cosying up in Megeve in the French Alps and she declares how cute everything is and that she feels as if she’s in The Sound of Music.

When he informs her that “That was Austria, this is France”, she responds, “Please don’t kill my fantasy, ever”.

That is Emily Cooper in a nutshell – never accept reality when you can live in your own concoction.

So, there are at least two destination episodes in the second half of the season which picks up after Emily and Gabriel’s reunion.

But there will be new challenges, even if they are unlikely to have any everlasting consequences.

At the marketing agency, Sylvie has hired another American, a potential rival, while Emily continues to be perturbed by Camille’s presence in Gabriel’s life. Even though, lest anyone forgets, Gabriel was Camille’s boyfriend first and Emily kind of, definitely, ruined their wedding. Whatever.

The video also hints that Emily’s little Roman holiday might just be a little bit swoony. A new player is on the scene, a potential client and Italian stallion named Marcello. Together, they traverse iconic sights and eat pasta.

There’s also the briefest shot of Alfie, so he’s still in the mix which makes this a love square instead of a menage a trois.

But the real question is, will Emily learn any Italian beyond rigatoni and biscotti?

Andiamo!
