M*A*S*H star Patrick Adiarte dead at 82, following a battle with ill health

Hollywood actor Patrick Adiarte, best known for his role in iconic TV series M*A*S*H, has died aged 82.

Adiarte died Tuesday in a Los Angeles hospital of pneumonia, his niece Stephanie Hogan told The Hollywood Reporter.

Adiarte, who also appeared in the Broadway productions of The King And I and Flower Drum Song, appeared on the TV series as Ho-Jon, the orphaned Korean houseboy.

During his run on the show he assisted Hawkeye Pierce, played by Alan Alda, and Trapper John McIntyre, played by Wayne Rogers, on seven episodes of the first season, between 1972 and 73.

CBS series M*A*S*H ran from 1972 to 1983. From 1983 to 2010, the finale episode of the series titled “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” was the most watched TV broadcast in United States history.

Adiarte appeared on Broadway in the production of The King and I, which starred Yul Brynner and Gertrude Lawrence, with him as one of the royal children.

In the 1956 film version of The King and I, he played Prince Chulalongkorn.

Adiarte was born in Manila in 1942.

He was imprisoned alongside his sister Irene and mother, Purita, by the Japanese during World War II. The family was injured when Japanese soldiers threw a grenade at them.

His father, who worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers, was killed during the war.

The family moved to New York in 1946, arriving through Ellis Island.

Patrick studied at the Professional Children’s School. The family were granted citizenship in 1956.

Kelly went on to star in John Goldfarb, Please Come Home! as well Bonanza, Hawaii Five-O.
