Slow Horses nabs early renewal for seventh season

Slow Horses is not just one of the compelling shows in production right now, it’s also one of the most efficient.
For that, its many fans are chuffed and grateful in an era when waiting years for new episodes has become frustratingly common.
The British spy drama has today been commissioned for a seventh season, months ahead of its fifth season premiere.

The first series premiered in April 2022 and its fifth will drop this September. That’s five seasons in the span of three and a half years. As a comparison point, that’s the same length of time between Stranger Things seasons four and five.
That speed has not yet compromised Slow Horses’ quality. The show is dark and droll, brimming with wry British humour.

Starring Gary Oldman, Slow Horses is adapted from Mick Herron’s Slough House books. It’s centred on a group of misfits and rejects from the British secret service who have been banished to a halfway unit to keep them out of the way, led by Jackson Lamb, a frumpy and grumpy officer whose espionage skills are still top-notch.
Everyone there has been cast out for a professional stuff-up, but they somehow always find themselves at the centre of a huge plot. The current ensemble also includes Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung and Tom Brooke – although characters are often killed off so there’s no guarantee that’s who will make it to season seven.
The official logline for season seven described the plot as a hunt for a mole at the heart of the British government.
The upcoming fifth season will centre on tech nerd Roddy (Chung), whose glamorous new girlfriend sparks suspicions across the Slough House team.
The show was created by British writer Will Smith and produced by See-Saw Films.
Herron has published eight books in the series with a ninth, Clown Town, due for release in September.
