Slow Horses season five reveals premiere date, first look images

You really have to hand it to the Slow Horses team. They are nothing if not efficient.
Apple announced today the superb British spy series will return with its fifth season on September 24.
If you’re doing the maths at home, that means since the show debuted in April 2022, it will have released five seasons in three years and five months. For comparison, three years and five months is the gap between Stranger Things seasons four and five.

But it is proof positive that you can still churn out a TV series quickly without sacrificing quality.
Because it is a very, very excellent show.
To give fans a tease of what’s to come, the production released a bunch of first-look pictures, one of which reveals Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed has joined the show as a special guest star.

Based on the book series by Mick Herron, Slow Horses stars Gary Oldman as the leader of a team of reject spies, intelligence officers who have been sent to the purgatory of Slough House, so they can stay out of trouble. It doesn’t quite work and the characters always manage to find themselves in the middle of some massive plot.
In the upcoming season, the team is sceptical when their snarky tech nerd, Roddy (Christopher Chung), nabs himself a glamorous girlfriend. Something doesn’t smell right. To boot, a bunch of strange events happen around London, and they’re convinced it’s all connected.
The season will also pick up a dangling thread from the previous instalment, the matter of the villainous Frank Harkness (Hugo Weaving), a former CIA agent and secretly River’s (Jack Lowden) bio-dad, who evaded capture and is confirmed to be returning.
Slow Horses also stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Aimee Ffion-Edwards, Joanna Scanlan and Tom Brooke.
Creator Will Smith (the writer, not the actor) won an Emmy in 2024 for writing a third season episode.
A sixth season has already been commissioned.
