Bachelor fan favourites Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne have unveiled their latest renovation updates including a "shaved deli meat" bathroom and a backyard setback.

The former reality stars turned renovators have been reimagining a retro seaside property on the South Coast of New South Wales after they purchased it at auction in June 2024 for $2.19 million.

Known as 'Chante Mer house' (sing the sea), the property has an Instagram account with 134k followers where the couple regularly share updates.

In a recent post, the pair shared several images of the pink-toned bathroom with the caption "The deli meat bathroom is all it's glory!"

Featuring a combination of pink and ecru coloured tiles, calacatta marble benchtops with warm neutrals, and pink and brown toned patterned floor tiles, the bathroom certainly does have the palette of a meat deli.

The reveal was met with much enthusiasm from fans. One follower commented "I am obsessed with your bathroom!" while others said "Stunning", "This looks incredible", and "So unique. Absolutely love it."

This is a far cry from some of the criticism the couple experienced early on over a different bathroom.

When this bathroom was revealed, followers were quick to flood the post with negative comments saying "I love you guys but I hate this. Sorry just hurts my eyes" and "Ekkk sorry but way too much going on. Seems all over the place and doesn't match".

Plot twists

Another major update the couple shared was the transformation of the backyard, but this was not without its setbacks.

In a post, Matty J and Laura shared that after a "crazy amount of rain" they discovered that the backyard area had zero drainage installed.

"We've had to make the call to rip up the existing bricks, install drainage, level the floor and re-lay the old bricks. Nothing like a last minute plot twist to keep things exciting!"

A later reel shows the backyard completely transformed with a large grassed space, timber deck and outdoor shower.

The video also showed a cleaned up roof, which one eagle-eyed follower was quick to spot - "The roof freshened everything up. Always forgotten normally. Great job to you both."

Compromise is key

Another big reveal was the colour of the double garage doors, which was a point of contention between the couple.

In a post Laura wrote, "When in doubt - compromise! Matt is thrilled we went with Taubmans Nude Rose for the garage."

Followers were thrilled with the result and quick to side with Laura - "Sorry Matty, but I'm so glad Laura won this round." Others wrote "This is proof the compromise should always be what Laura says. Always", and "Happy Wife! Happy Life!"

Matty J and Laura met on season five of The Bachelor Australia. They now have two daughters and a third on the way.
