'It evokes curiosity': A gold rush icon has hit the market in North Bendigo

There are some houses that demand a second glance, and 'Frescot' is one such property.
"It evokes curiosity," said listing agent Jen Wallace. "The conservatory at the front sparks the imagination of passersby and stops them in their tracks."
The striking conservatory in question is a room at the front of the house that contains the original stained glass windows from the historic property.

Located on Niemann Street in North Bendigo, the landmark home was built in 1870 and remains one of the most beguiling homes in the area.
Originally a homestead, the property is currently listed for sale with Bendigo Ballarat Real Estate and has a price guide of $2 million to $2.2 million.

Last year, the property underwent an extensive renovation and redesign with the current vendor, a designer, at the helm.
"She's done a complete transformation," said Ms Wallace. "She's made it lighter and airier and much more family friendly.

"Also the way that she's styled it is magnificent."
Situated on a hill overlooking Bendigo's CBD, the four-bedroom home is spread over a single level with two underground cellars - one accessible via the dining room and the other via the kitchen.

It features a spacious main suite, three bathrooms, a beautiful modern kitchen with shaker-style cabinetry and high-end appliances, and a light-filled living room that leads out onto the verandah through French doors.
Also, on the property is an additional dwelling known as the 'coach house'.

"A big bonus is the self-contained coach house that sits adjacent to the pool," said Ms Wallace. "It offers an adaptable floor plan, so if you want to have an Airbnb or if you've got family staying, it's really ideal."
Overlooking the garden with beautiful double doors, the coach house contains a bedroom, ensuite and kitchen.

The gardens have been beautifully manicured with lush grassy lawns and mature trees, meaning almost every window in the home looks out onto greenery.
A centrepiece swimming pool, heated by solar power, has also been added to the grounds, as well as an outdoor dining area.

Unsurprisingly since the property was listed it has garnered a lot of attention.
"I've had a lot of inspections and a lot of interest," said Ms Wallace. "I've had many people attending inspections just out of pure curiosity."

While the original period details within the home are extraordinary, Ms Wallace believed it's the renovation that has truly elevated the historic house.
"There's so many interesting things about the property, but the transformation has been magnificent."

The home is located close to Bendigo Health, View Street's vibrant restaurants and shops, local reserves and sporting facilities.
