‘Unremarkable’: Ley not bothered by Hastie, Taylor
Opposition Leader Sussan Ley says she’s not worried about Andrew Hastie or Angus Taylor after the two were seen dining together amid leadership concerns.
Asked if she was worried, Ms Ley said: “Not at all.”
“It’s unremarkable for colleagues to get together and have meals.
“I speak to those colleagues and indeed almost all of my colleagues almost every single day.
“I’m in Parliament.
“Again, people can make what amusing aside they want on photos that are, as I said, completely unremarkable.
Ley calls out ‘awful Labor Government’
Despite not having unity within her ranks, Ms Ley called out the “awful Labor Government”, who she says are making life harder for Australians, adding that a strong Coalition was in the country’s interest.
“We (Nationals and Liberals) said we would come together. Our respective party rooms had worked through this (net zero) and come to a Coalition position,” Ms Ley told Sunrise.
“What we believe is that the Liberal and National Parties are stronger together as a Coalition because we both equally want to fight this awful Labor Government.
“You only have to point to yesterday’s lack of a rate reduction. They (Labor) have killed off a rate decrease before Christmas. It makes it really, really hard for struggling families.
“The RBA has called out this massive government spending and economy.”
‘Sooner rather than later’: Ley’s net zero call
Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has fronted media as questions over her ability to lead a cohesive Coalition continue to swirl over her handling of the net zero debacle.
“The Liberal Party room will meet sooner rather than later, certainly before Parliament resumes after this week, and we will come to a position,” Ms Ley told Sunrise on Wednesday.
Ms Ley said the Liberals will “to its own decision in our own party room” over net zero, despite the Nationals already making a call to scrap any commitment.
The Opposition Leader said she told Australians she “would be listening to my colleagues, to every single one of my team” when she was appointed, something she expects Australians would see as a “good thing”.
