‘Go to school’: Clare’s warning to student protestors
Education Minister Jason Clare has told pint-sized protestors planning to ditch the classroom on Remembrance Day for nationwide rallies to put down the megaphone and “go to school”.
Mr Clare criticised plans for widespread protests by school students on the sacred day, instead telling them to use the weekend to protest.
“Whatever the day it is, you don’t do this on Remembrance Day,” he told ABC News Breakfast.
“A day where, for at least one minute, it’s not too much to ask to expect Australians to stop and remember the sort of sacrifice that other Australians made for us.”
The criticism from the Labor frontbencher comes as Australian high school students are planning nationwide classroom walkouts and protest on November 11 in rallies organised by a high school anti-capitalist group targeting One Nation and its policies.
In his message to students, the Education Minister said school days should be spent in the classroom.
“Put down the loud-hailer, pick up the poppy”, he said.
