Illegal AI pornography has circulated online of female highschooolers in South Western Sydney.

A Year 12 student at a southwest Sydney high school has been accused of creating deepfake pornographic images of female classmates and posting them online.

The male student, who has not been named for legal reasons, allegedly used innocent photos sourced from social media and school events to make pornographic fake profiles on social media.

The NSW Department of Education sent an email to parents, informing them that their daughters had been victims of the AI deepfake scandal.

“The school has been made aware that a Year 12 male student has allegedly used artificial intelligence to create a profile that resembles your daughters and others,” it said.

The department assured parents that their daughters had not engaged in any inappropriate behaviour but were victims of the situation, as the deepfakes and profiles were created using AI.

“We want to emphasise that your daughters have done nothing wrong, there are no inappropriate real photos of them being used.

“I am sorry this has occurred.”

The email urged parents and their families to assist in removing the fake social media profiles.

Parents and students are advised against sharing the evidence due to its “X-rated nature” and are urged not to contact the male student directly, as the matter is now under police investigation.

A spokesperson for the NSW Department of Education confirmed on Thursday the matter had been referred to police and the eSafety commissioner and is currently under investigation.

“We do not tolerate such behaviour and will take the appropriate action.

“Our highest priority is to ensure our students feel safe and any decision about this student’s future involvement in the school will be based on that.

“We are helping affected students with appropriate wellbeing support and will do so as long as required.”

It is unclear whether the student has been suspended at this stage.

The teenager responsible was arrested but later released.
